Best Time to Book

2020 Calendar at The Grove

We’ve been busy touring all summer long, meeting great people and filling the calendar (the photo is of our actual calendar at the time of this post). I’m often asked by couple what is your favorite date for a wedding and how far in advance should we book. Honestly, that’s a little more complicated than one would think! We are blessed to enjoy four real seasons on the creek and growing interest thanks to all of the glowing reviews from our couples!

Winter: January – Mid-March While some would argue that winter on the creek would not be ideal for a wedding, I would differ. This is a great time to take advantage of lower rates and a beautiful indoor space. Our venue is beautiful and perfect for an indoor wedding with a hill country feel. Who knows, we may get a mild Saturday making an outdoor ceremony an excellent option! My choice for date would be mid-January as we typically see a quick freeze in February and March begins the rainy part of the season. However, daylight savings begins the first of March so to catch a bit more sunlight early March is a good choice, too.

Spring: Mid-March – May Spring sees the jasmine vine that covers our gazebo in full bloom and the trees across the creek are filling in nicely. The downside to spring is it could be wet and the temperature is sure to swing as well. No worries, our stunning indoor option is waiting for you. After a wet (we never say the “r” word) 2019 spring, I am happy to report we were able to have each ceremony on the deck! That’s right we may have experienced down pours in the morning but by 3 o’clock we were setting up for a beautiful ceremony. I’m quite proud of that statistic! Favorite dates are hard to choose for Spring. I lean toward the first weekend of May to see a slow down in showers and the sunsets are beyond spectacular.

Summer: June-September Summer in Texas has an unfair reputation. Yes, August and September can be really warm (that’s why they are discounted) but, June and early July bring fantastic summer evenings for a celebration! The sunset is later which means more time to enjoy sunset on the patio with a cold drink in hand. Ah summer! The deck enjoys a constant breeze and is covered by live oaks to provide a shady ceremony for your guests. Doesn’t get much better than that. Personally, my favorite dates are in the first half of June; we’re still very excited for summer, kids are out of school so travel is easier and a beach honeymoon never disappoints!

Fall : October- December Fall, yes not second summer but fall! My absolute favorite season. I will call this season fall not autumn as a nod to my not so sophisticated southern slant on seasons. For most folks fall in Texas means one thing, football. While football season officially begins Labor Day weekend, the traditional start to fall, we must wait another month to experience cooling temps and the emergence of colorful foliage on the creek. The timing of the leaf change is never exact but I can guarantee that the week before Thanksgiving is a great time to experience an amazing show from Mother Nature on your wedding day.

The next big question is how early to book. Bookings occur in waves, as do engagements, so look for February, May, July and November as key booking months. Typically we book 12-18 months in advance of a wedding and are the first thing to book as the date must be set before anything else can occur. Look for rates to be discounted in the “Incentive Dates” section of the website when a date hits the 10 months or less mark. Rest assured I have assisted in planning weddings in three months so 10 is an eternity!

If you’re looking for peak season dates (April, May, June, October, November) don’t wait too long to have your best choice. If you are looking for repeating numbers (3/3/20 or 10/20/20), don’t wait those will definitely book in the 18 months prior to date category regardless of the season.
